The Data Migration Lead is accountable for the end‑to‑end governance and execution oversight of all data migration activities required to move from ECC to S/4HANA on RISE. While the System Integrator executes most technical migration activities, this role ensures strong governance, controls, business ownership and data quality across all migration cycles.
The role ensures all agreed data in scope is migrated, including master and transactional data (e.g. open items, balances, in‑flight transactions), and that data is cleansed, mapped, validated and formally signed off by business owners.
Key Responsibilities
1. Data Migration Strategy, Scope & Governance
- Own and maintain the overall data migration strategy aligned with target architecture, MDG strategy and deployment plan
- Define and manage migration scope across master and transactional data
- Establish and run data migration governance, including forums, roles, decision rights and sign‑off points
2. Planning & Coordination
- Build and maintain the data migration plan across mock cycles, cutover and post‑go‑live
- Coordinate closely with the System Integrator on tools and execution
- Align with MDG, Functional Workstreams, Integration, Test Management and Satellite Systems
3. Business Engagement, Cleansing & Mapping
- Define data ownership and stewardship per domain
- Drive business‑led cleansing and enrichment activities
- Oversee mapping design and formal business sign‑off
4. Mock Cycles & Quality Controls
- Define reconciliation and data quality controls
- Plan and oversee mock migrations and dress rehearsals
- Ensure defects are tracked, prioritised and resolved
5. Cutover & Go‑Live
- Own the data migration workstream within the cutover plan
- Ensure all cutover loads are reconciled and tracked
- Provide data readiness input into go/no‑go decisions
6. Post‑Go‑Live & Hypercare
- Coordinate post‑go‑live data fixes and delta loads
- Manage data‑related incidents and sustainable resolutions
- Ensure documentation and handover into BAU
7. Risk, Compliance & Documentation
- Maintain data migration RAID log
- Ensure compliance with security, privacy and regulatory requirements
- Maintain all migration artefacts and audit evidence
