Our Client is seeking a Remote z/OS Systems Programmer with strong GDPS experience to support high-availability, enterprise mainframe environments. The role requires hands-on expertise with IBM DS8K storage, z/OS, GDPS, NetView, and System Automation, along with the ability to train and support client teams in regulated environments.

Key Responsibilities DS8K/DASD:

  • DASD architecture expertise, including DSCLI usage and scripting
  • Design and carve DS8K storage (pools, LSSs, volumes)
  • Configure Metro Mirror and Global Mirror replication across sites and IBM Power devices
  • Implement DS8K resiliency, balancing ports, adapters, and I/O compartments to avoid single points of failure

z/OS Systems Programming:

  • Perform PARMLIB and PROCLIB updates
  • Modify CLISTs and implement RACF changes
  • Support net-new LPARs with DORA, FFIEC, and NIST compliance
  • Execute sysplex updates and support Metro Mirror and HyperSwap configurations

NetView & System Automation (z/SA):

  • Build NetView environments from scratch
  • Customize DSIPARM and STGEN for Metro Mirror or Global Mirror
  • Develop REXX automation
  • Create and manage GDPS Policy Databases (PDBs) and automation operators
  • Implement dual control and security controls to reduce outage risk

GDPS Training & Knowledge Transfer:

  • Deliver GDPS training to engineering, operations, and management teams
  • Educate clients on GDPS architecture, functionality, and customization
  • Provide structured knowledge transfer for ongoing client support
Requirements
  • Extensive hands-on experience with IBM Z, GDPS, DS8K storage, and sysplex environments
  • Strong knowledge of NetView, System Automation (z/SA), and REXX
  • Experience supporting regulated industries with strict compliance requirements
  • Proven ability to lead technical discussions, training sessions, and client-facing engagements
  • Able to engage confidently and professionally with clients at all levels
  • Able to demonstrate patience and clarity when training and mentoring technical and non-technical audiences
  • Able to navigate complex client environments with diplomacy, particularly when supporting demanding stakeholders with high expectations
  • Able to act as a trusted advisor while maintaining focus on risk reduction, resiliency, and operational excellence
