As a Software Engineering People Manager,
you will:
– Serve as a servant leader for a cross functional engineering team including Software Engineers, Technical Program Managers, and Product Manager-Technical roles.
– Recruit and hire top talent, ensuring each new hire raises the bar relative to the current team.
– Collaborate closely with product, vendor, and architecture stakeholders on product definition, technical design, and overall delivery strategy.
– Act as a technical resource and mentor, helping team members grow their skills and make sound engineering decisions.
– Review designs, code, and implementations with an emphasis on quality, resiliency, and maintainability.
– Communicate clearly and confidently in department wide forums, helping convey application-level direction, progress, and priorities.
– Coach, guide, and develop your team, ensuring goal setting, check ins, and performance management are done thoughtfully and on time.
– Own the health of your team’s software, including runtime characteristics, maintenance behaviors, dependencies, and environmental considerations.
– Make rapid, confident decisions in a fast-paced environment, providing clarity amid ambiguity.
– Drive senior management communication, including delivery updates, support considerations, and escalations as needed.
All About You
– A degree in Computer Science or a related field, preferred
– Proven experience leading high-performing software development teams is required. Managing, coaching, and developing high-performing Agile engineering teams is preferred.
– Relevant hands-on experience with software development is required (C/C++ or Java preferred).
– Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automation, and driving engineering efficiency.
– Motivated, creative, and self-directed with a strong desire to thrive on small, agile teams.
– Demonstrated ability to design scalable, reliable solutions for complex problem spaces.
– Familiarity with modular architectures, single responsibility services, and API design.
– Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
– Experience with high volume, low latency systems (e.g., payment switching, high-frequency trading, real time event streaming).
– Outstanding communication skills with all levels of the organization.
