Job Overview

Our client is seeking a GL Manager. Key Responsibilities:

  • General Ledger Management:
  • Oversee daily GL operations, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and adjustments
  • Maintain the chart of accounts and ensure proper classification of transactions
  • Ensure all GL activities comply with US GAAP (or applicable accounting standards)

Month-End & Year-End Close:

  • Manage the month-end close process, ensuring deadlines are met and financial data is accurate
  • Review and approve journal entries and reconciliations prepared by the accounting team
  • Coordinate with internal departments to resolve discrepancies

Financial Reporting & Analysis:

  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Provide variance analysis and commentary for management reports
  • Assist with audit preparation and respond to auditor inquiries

Leadership & Team Development:

  • Supervise, mentor, and train GL staff
  • Set performance goals and provide regular feedback
  • Foster a culture of accuracy, efficiency, and continuous improvement

Compliance & Process Improvement:

  • Ensure adherence to internal controls and company policies
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy
  • Support system upgrades, integrations, and automation initiatives

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles)
  • Expertise in journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end/year-end close
  • Knowledge of intercompany transactions and consolidations
  • Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite)
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, macros)
  • Familiarity with financial reporting tools
  • Ability to analyze financial data and identify discrepancies
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Critical thinking for resolving complex accounting issues
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines during close cycles
  • Strong project management and prioritization skills
  • Experience leading a team or mentoring junior accountants
  • Clear communication with cross-functional teams (e.g., FP&A, Tax, Audit)
  • Ability to present financial data to non-financial stakeholders
