We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Fuel Accountant to support financial reporting, general ledger accounting, reconciliations, compliance, and month-end close activities. This role plays a key part in maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and supporting budgeting and forecasting initiatives. The ideal candidate has strong technical accounting knowledge, analytical skills, and experience working in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and company policies
- Maintain the general ledger and ensure transactions are recorded accurately and completely
- Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and account adjustments
- Perform bank, credit card, balance sheet, and intercompany reconciliations
- Lead month-end and year-end close activities, ensuring deadlines are met
- Analyze financial results and investigate account variances and discrepancies
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities
- Support internal and external audits by preparing schedules and providing required documentation
- Assist with tax compliance activities, including sales tax, income tax, and other regulatory reporting requirements
- Develop and maintain accounting procedures, internal controls, and process documentation
- Partner with Finance and operational teams to provide financial insights and recommendations
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and operational efficiencies
- Support special projects and finance initiatives as assigned
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Experience with general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, and financial statement preparation
- Experience managing month-end and year-end close processes
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards
- Proficiency with accounting software and ERP systems
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent attention to detail and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
- CPA certification or CPA candidate
- Public accounting experience
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
- Experience supporting audits, compliance, and tax reporting activities
